The Paris of South America

Thursday Nov. 25th, Thanksgiving
Buenos Aires City Tour
"Breakfast at the hotel, and then enjoy a three-hour tour of the “Paris of South America”. See the beautiful public squares and parks of Buenos Aires, including Plaza de Mayo, Plaza del Congresso, the Government House, Colon Theater, Palermo Park, Recoleta Cemetery (where Evita is buried) and 9th of July Avenue. Remainder of the day at leisure."

A popular job in the city. Not nearly as many landmines to contend with as I had anticipated.

My ultimate Amazing Race partner
A damn good navigator, and perhaps someone funnier than I am, which I can't say very often
At dinner the night before PR Barbara made the observation, "She really listens to you, you guys should keep in touch."
Hopefully we will, and not be another "Lost in Translation" fading memory. I wonder what Bill Murray whispers at the end of the movie?

A disfigured symbol in the Plaza de Mayo area

In front of Casa Rosada
The presidential palace where politicians, Eva Peron and others have rallied for public support, and from where Madonna sand for the movie as well.

These painted white hankerchiefs are symbols in memory of the 30,000 people that disappeared during the Dirty War

After the tour Vikki and I had a two hour lunch beginning around 3pm. It was a cafe recommended by our guide in the Florida shopping area. We had some chicken broth angel hair soup that really hit the spot, Vikki some baked chicken and I myself got them to customize a meal of angel hair with tomato sauce and some incredibly tender beef stew. Very friendly waiter, an experience definitely worth the mention.

Adam, Eleanor, myself, and Vikki at the Four Seasons in BA
My friend and co-worker Eleanor got married the Saturday I left for this trip, but as luck would have it she would be honeymooning in BA at the same time I was there, small world! So we were able to catch up over some drinks at their hotel. Funny- I missed the wedding, but made the honeymoon.

Having conversed with a Brit at the falls, he recommended one meat place in BA that would also serve testiculos de javos, or turkey testicles, in case we needed a fix for Thanksgiving. I was up for it, but instead...
A bunch of us would head out to the Palermo area arriving around 11pm- apparently we had already adapted to local custom. We had dinner at the Bar Uriarte, which Vikki picked from our book and was an ultra trendy looking place like a W Hotel lobby. Food was eclectic, outstanding, and roughly $8 for an entree and mixed drink. We then walked the iffy two blocks over to the main nightlife area, and sat for some coffee and people watching. I was again more than ready to crash at this point of the night- just give me a cushy woman or TV to curl up with.
