Tulum and Whalesharks

Sunday afternoon - Monday

"In Pre-Columbian times the island was sacred to the Mayan moon goddess, Ix Chel. When the Spanish arrived here in the 16th century they named it 'Isla Mujeres' meaning 'Island of Women' because of the many cult images of the moon goddess here."

Sunday Afternoon

After spending some time enjoying the water we go right next door to the Sunset Grill, a great place to eat.
I got the club sandwich that actually had crispy bacon in it and good fries, Evelyn the fish tacos, Linda had a bad dish of fish and tortillas dunked in beans.

We had rented a golf cart after the whale sharks and we took it to drop Evelyn off for her dolphin experience and then drive around the island

Linda and I went to spend time out at the place next to Garrafon where there was snorkeling

Here is a sculpture garden at the island's eastern most point, as well as a small Mayan ruin.

On the way back this is a house shaped like a conch shell with coral gates

We finally find Hotel Secreto, which we were originally going to stay at.

We get to enjoy the sunset at our place

Outstanding dinner at Casa O's, which had been recommended by the girls from the boat.
I had the sea bass which was good, Evelyn the shrimp, and Linda had fantastic grouper- so we discovered a new fish I like! Apple pie & ice cream desert as well.
This would be the one and only place we tried the hielo (ice), and it turned out fine.

Monday

After dropping Evelyn off at the ferry and returning the caret we have lunch back at the Sunset Grill.

Mexican burger and muy excelente grouper

Then it's a ferry ride back to Puerto Juarez

We got some margaritas from Jimmy Buffett's place right across from our gate

American #1108 4:20pm to 7:10pm

And we leave Mexico...

Just as we were leaving apparently Federales are looking to shut down some of the hotels by the Tulum ruins, including one we hung out at! What timing- Article Here

$1 = 10.4 pesos while we were there.
