New Orleans

Crazy to think it may be years before anyone can really go back here.

My first trip here was for Mardi Gras in 1994, my senior year of college. I ended up catching the flu right before I went, but decided to still go. We drove out there, slept on the concrete floor of our fraternity chapter at Tulane or in the car, and it was freezing at night. It was quite the unique, adventurous experience. But the crowds were so huge and unruly that there was genuine danger there.

This trip is from July 2004. Got in on a Sunday and took a city tour. To be honest it wasn't that great and I ended up sleeping through half of it.

I remember reading on the airline magazine on the flight in that this was ranked like the second city in the world for gastronomy. The person next to me had been here several times for conventions, so I got several restaurant tips from her.
